We tried another new place last weekend (yep, definitely running behind on blog posts!)
Down House's sign reads "Coffee Bar Restaurant" They are open daily 9am - midnight & located at 1801 Yale Street Houston, TX 77008
As this is my boyfriend's old zip code, we were glad to be around in the area again and was a bit nostalgic :)

Couple things about this place...
They got a good collection of items for brunch. Probably can't read all the details, but here is the picture of their brunch menu:

Couple things about this place...
- Wait: When we first arrived, they gave us 35-40min wait estimate & there weren't that many people waiting at all. They take your phone number and call/text you when your table is ready, which I love since you dont have to sit there and wait or something. Me and Khiz decided to go for a walk to get our steps in (we both have FitBit) & they call us in 5 min. Pretty bad at estimating the wait time. I think they can definitely improve.
- OJ: Another down side was our waitress forgot about my Fresh Squeezed OJ order until I asked for it 2nd time after we received our first plate. Maybe they were busy, but come on forgetting OJ order during brunch?
- Water: I LOVED their water. It wasn't Ice water, but was cool enough. It was filtered well and just was SO refreshing.

We ordered the Fresh Baked Popover $5 as appetizer to share. Not many places have popovers (unless bakeries) so it was something different about them. It came with 3 spreads: Lemon Curd, Jam & Butter. Popover was good. huge air pockets inside, but the spreads were nothing special.
I got the Smoked Salmon on Butternut Squash Cakes $14. I have seen a lot of pictures of this posted on yelp & I love smoked salmon, so it was a no brainer. It is just like Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon / instead of english muffin, they have Butternut Squash and Piave Cakes / Dill Yogurt Sauce instead of Hollandaise sauce. You also have an option of subbing chicken eggs with duck eggs for extra $2. I just went with chicken eggs.
What did I think of it? The Butternut Squash and Piave Cakes taste was so strong that I barely tasted smoked salmon. I mean, it is pretty difficult to kill off that taste, but it did. I did not hated it, but wish I could taste salmon more. I loved the dill yogurt sauce tho! (LOVE yogurt)
Khizzi got the Breakfast Taco Plates $10. They got 4 different options for the tacos and he got Roasted Vegetables, Spices, Tofu, Peppers, Avocado, Arugula. with black beans! Oh boy do these tacos look good & taste good! The roasted cauliflower was especially amazing.
To finish the brunch off, we ordered the Russian Pancakes $6. The menu description reads: Family Recipe Thin Pancake, Pear-Roselle Jam, Powdered Sugar. It is in between a crepe and a normal pancake, but they are rolled up with jam in the middle. I like the fact that the jam was not over powering. It was just the right amount in the inside so it was great.
