Weekend is here! that means we get to have BRUNCH :)
Brunch is absolutely the favorite meal for Tina & Khiz. We basically live for brunches. It's not the mimosas or bloody marys; we actually don't understand why people want to start drinking that early. We are fine with glass of water or hot tea. we just really love brunch food!
I have been to Barnaby's Cafe in Houston before, but this is the first time with Khiz and this particular location. If you live in Houston, you probably have heard of Barnaby's cafe. There are SO many of them.
Here is there website (check it out for locations, menu & their story of Barnaby!
We went to their downtown location on Congress. Checking Yelp (as I never eat out without at least checking) I noticed that all their other locations have 4/4.5 stars, but the downtown location was the only one with 3.5 stars and very few reviews. Well, the menu is all the same and this location had no wait for 2 people at the time so we gave it a try! If you want some cheap breakfast/brunch with lots of protein, check this place out.
Note that the parking can be a bit tricky as this is in downtown and they don't have a designated parking lot.
We grabbed a table right by the window. Our server Jaime was very prompt & nice! (I am a sucker for a good service.) We had to ask for the breakfast menu as they were still serving it, but it was already almost 2pm & Look at their breakfast menu! Aren't they so much fun & colorful!

and finally our sweet little treat to share!
Banana Walnut Seasonal Fruit Pancake! $7.95 The sliced bananas & walnuts were embedded in the pancake. Topped with strawberries and powder sugar on top! It was not as big/thick as I expected, but it was good.
So typically, Tina & Khiz order 1 entrees each & 1 to share (almost always something sweet, like pancake or french toast)
Going with that flow, I got the Buffalo Scramble: ground buffalo, onion, mushroom, spinach & egg whites served with dry wheat toast. $9.95. That is pretty good deal & you get a big portion. protein heaven. It was kind of a no brainer since we just finished our workout and i LOVE spinach & mushroom. Only downside is the side I got. If I knew it comes with home fries (they were good, but FRIED) I would have gotten fruit or some healthier substitute.
Khiz got Annie's Low-Fat High-Protein Burrito: 6 egg whites, grilled chicken & black beans wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla. Served with salsa, guacamole & sliced tomatoes. $9.95 now let me tell you.... this burrito was HUGE and kind of difficult to eat for Khiz lol It was stuffed that when you hold and take the first bite, things starts to fall out. Nonetheless, flavorful and PACKED with protein! (It is pretty difficult to tell the size in this picture.. but Khiz was full after eating this and took him some time to finish all)
Overall experience here was good. Our hot tea pot was re-filled when it was done and our server so kindly divided our check right in the middle and gave us separate checks. (I have not seen any place actually do this & he did this since we told him we will pay half-half) We left Barnaby's FULL & was glad that we parked couple blocks away to walk it off!
